2019 Kilowatt Cup Winner - UPS Wordport

UPS has developed a robust sustainability program to help drive environmental stewardship and reduce their carbon footprint.  Their Louisville based Worldport facility is a tremendous example of these efforts.  These initiatives include, but are not limited to, a phased 4 year chilled water plant modernization program that upgrades older systems with high efficiency replacements, building automation upgrades and implementation of advanced energy conservation routines, LED lighting retrofits (runways, parking lots and some interior spaces), real-time data capture and monitoring with continuous improvements and quarterly system reviews with detailed written reports.  This program’s success has been highly dependent on a top down drive to incorporate efficiency in everything they do in order to reduce UPS’ carbon footprint.

The results are impressive.  Since 2017, UPS’ Worldport facility has reduced their electrical consumption by over 68 million KWh of electricity and 71 thousand CCF of natural gas.  In the last twelve months alone, the Worldport facility has achieved electric savings over 30 million KWh and 53 thousand CCF of natural gas.  To put this carbon reduction into context, these savings are equivalent to UPS offsetting 67% of their package car emissions in the states of Kentucky and Indiana.
